About Downey United Methodist Preschool
Downey United Methodist Preschool began in 1965 with one director and a single teacher. The simple idea of beginning each new day with love and understanding has grown into four classrooms, five mornings a week. Our purpose is to provide children a loving environment where they may grow, develop, learn and be equipped for future education. The program is designed to meet the developmental needs of young children 2-5 years of age. It provides experiences that enrich and enhance each child's cognitive, language, social, emotional, physical and creative development.

A child's work is PLAY!
In play, children are learning how to learn. They are exploring and experimenting as they build relationships with their world and themselves. We encourage the six C's: Confidence, Competence, Cooperation, Coordination, Consideration, and Compassion. Our goal is to create a stimulating environment to promote the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of each child.
We believe in using a child-centered approach to learning with the teacher as role model and guide. Teachers will be responsible for providing age-appropriate learning opportunities and will enable each child to learn at their own pace. Our experienced staff meets the training and education required by the state for preschool educators.

Downey United Methodist Preschool is a non-profit outreach program of Downey United Methodist Church. The mission of our preschool is to evaluate and meet the needs of the children in our community. We welcome all children regardless of sex, race, ethnic background, or physical disabilities.
We offer 3 and 5 day a week sessions for half day, school day, and all day schedules to meet every families different needs.
